The Athlete’s Choice for Sports Care and Injury Prevention

Core Concepts utilizes a conservative therapeutic approach towards athletic injuries which effectively embraces the needs of the sports participant. In most cases, we will help guide an athlete toward their therapeutic goals without major disruption to their chosen sport. However, avoiding medical help can exacerbate an existing injury and provoke a more serious and debilitating one, possibly leading to long term exclusion from sporting activities. Several world class and Olympic athletes, in addition to professional athletes and teams, have utilized sports rehab chiropractors to provide care. Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Karl Malone, Joe Montana, Nolan Ryan, Muhammad Ali, and Carl Lewis all have utilized chiropractic care.

BACK PAIN & INJURY PREVENTION
For obvious reasons, athletes inherit greater risk of suffering a back injury due to physical activity. Whether the sport is golf, soccer, basketball, tennis, football, running, baseball, or cycling, the spine takes a lot of stress, endures pressure, twisting, turning, and in almost all cases bodily impact. Accumulation of increased strenuous activity puts a stress on the back that may lead to injury to even the most elite and fittest athletes. Though the whole spine is used when competing in sports, it is estimated that 5-10 percent of all sports injuries are related to the lower back.

NECK PAIN & INJURY PREVENTION
A neck sprain is simply an injury to a ligament, while a neck strain is an injury to a muscle or tendon. When a strain of the neck takes place as a result of an injury, athletes and coaches might refer to it as a crammed neck or ‘stinger’. In golfers and tennis players, neck strains are more likely due to overuse injuries. With athletes who engage in contact sports, a neck strain occurs when a player gets hit and the neck is suddenly and forcefully bent forward or hyper extended backward. Getting clipped from behind is a specific risk and may cause the athlete to suffer a whiplash-type injury. Athletes who are in the high risk group for neck injuries include football, lacrosse, soccer, rugby players, and wrestlers.
